Rising Stars: Miles S.

Miles is an 8th grade athlete who has quickly built a reputation as one of the most dependable and impactful runners on the team. With a year and a half in the Elevated program, he exemplifies what steady progress, strong character, and consistent commitment can produce in distance running.

Miles’ greatest strength as a runner is his consistency. Day-to-day, week-to-week, and month-to-month, he shows up ready to work and continues to stack quality training. That reliability has translated into strong performances across multiple events, including PRs of 2:18 in the 800m, 4:56 in the 1600m, 13:43 for the 4K cross country, and 17:19 for the 5K. His training dedication has also led to a 10:33 two-mile and an impressive 11th place finish in the 14-year-old boys division at the AAU National Junior Olympics.

That consistency paid off in a major breakthrough this past weekend when Miles achieved a significant personal goal by breaking five minutes in the 1600m, running 4:56. This milestone reflects months of disciplined training and positions him well as he continues to chase his next objectives: a sub-4:50 mile, earning a varsity spot in cross country at Legend High School, and qualifying for NXN.

Beyond the results, Miles stands out as a leader and culture-builder. He is widely known as one of the most positive and encouraging teammates, often motivating others in the middle of workouts while maintaining his own focus and effort. His warm, welcoming presence helps create an environment where athletes feel supported and challenged at the same time.

Cross country is his favorite season, particularly because of the hilly, windy, and technical courses. He enjoys the strategic side of racing that goes beyond pace alone, requiring attention to terrain, footing, and decision-making throughout the race.

Miles takes pride not only in his performances, but in the process behind them. He credits his improvement to consistent effort, learning from missed goals, and staying focused on long-term development. His advice to new runners reflects that mindset: goals don’t happen automatically — they require patience, work, and accountability.

Outside of running, Miles has a wide range of interests, including cars, mountain biking, and playing the piano. He values the team culture at Elevated, choosing the flamingo ChicknLegs design as his favorite for the way it represents unity and lasting memories. His ideal race setup includes pasta the night before and doughnuts afterward — especially rewarding after a hard-earned PR. One of his favorite team memories came after Nationals, celebrating with teammates at the hotel and sharing moments that strengthened friendships across the team.

Miles continues to show how consistency, leadership, and positivity can elevate both individual performance and the team as a whole. His trajectory in the sport is strong, and his influence extends well beyond the finish line.
