Rising Stars: Caleb M.

At 10 years old and in 4th grade, Caleb already understands something many athletes take years to learn: consistency compounds.

He started with Elevated at just 8 years old. Over the past 3.5 years, he has improved every single season. There have been no skipped steps and no shortcuts—just steady progress built on daily discipline. His current personal bests reflect that growth: 2:39 in the 800m, 5:38 in the 1600m, and 11:54 for 3K in cross country. Each mark represents incremental gains earned through consistent training and racing.

Caleb may be quiet and reserved off the course, but once he races, his intensity is unmistakable. He competes with purpose. More importantly, he prepares with purpose. He is one of the most consistent athletes on the team in both practice and competition, and he holds one of the strongest attendance records across the program. He almost never misses a workout. On many occasions, he stays late after practice, unprompted, to finish his weekly mileage goals. That behavior makes one thing clear: running is a priority in his life.

His work ethic and competitive nature define him. In his words, “At practice I show up every day. Give it my all. I love a challenge. Give me something to work towards.” That mindset has translated into major accomplishments, including earning MVP for the 8 & Under boys division, qualifying individually and as a team for Nationals in both 2023 and 2024, breaking 6:00 in the mile, and running sub-12:00 in the 3K. He has stood atop countless podiums—both individually and alongside teammates—in track and cross country competition.

Despite his individual success, Caleb’s favorite season is cross country because of the shared journey. He values progression alongside his teammates, many of whom have been with him since the beginning. His favorite memories center on team bonding, including last year’s Coyote race when teammates started calling him “Coach Caleb”—a nickname that reflects the trust and leadership he has quietly earned. He loves Elevated because it pushes him to be his best while also allowing him to build strong friendships.

Looking ahead, Caleb’s goals are specific and performance-driven: break 5:30 in the mile and earn AAU All-American honors at Nationals this fall. He understands that those outcomes will require continued commitment to the daily process that has already fueled his improvement.

Outside of running, Caleb loves sports—watching them, playing them, and competing in anything involving a ball. On race day, he flips the switch. EDT headband on. War paint ready. Music up. His pump-up playlist includes “Tick Tick Boom” by Sage the Gemini, “Turn Down for What” by DJ Snake and Lil Jon, and “The Distance” by Cake—songs that match the competitive edge he brings to the start line.

Before racing, he fuels with his mom’s homemade mac and cheese. Afterward, it’s a cookie dough ice cream sundae. His favorite ChicknLegs designs are the chili peppers and the orange Cars.

If you ask him what advice he would give a new runner, his answer reflects maturity beyond his years: “Don’t worry about what other people are running. Go out there and do your best and have fun.”

Caleb doesn’t talk about goals. He structures his life around earning them. Season after season, practice after practice, he shows up. And that consistency is exactly why his trajectory continues upward.
